Once again, the Harlow SSP provided a fantastic opportunity for the pupils of Harlow’s primary schools – this time it was the turn of the Year 5 and 6 Girls to experience a tag-rugby festival. With a last-minute change of venues from Harlow RFC to Church Langley Primary School, 8 teams of girls took part in a series of group matches, with a focus on developing an understanding of the game rules whilst having fun.
The standard improved throughout the morning’s event, with approximately 90 girls developing their running with the ball, their tagging and defending skills and for some, the first experience of competition.
Following the group games, the teams played a ranked fixture against the corresponding opponents. Ultimately, the final was contested between Church Langley girls and St Nicholas girls, with the match ending in a 2-2 draw. Thanks were given to the girls, the supporting school staff and Gill Pardoe and David Stacey for umpiring throughout the mornings’ games.
The results of the groups games were as follows:
Group 1
Saint Nicholas – 9 points
Newhall Primary 1 – 7 points
Cooks Spinney 2 –4 points
Purford Green - 4 points
Group 2
Church Langley – 9 points
Cooks Spinney 1 – 7 points
Newhall Primary 2 – 5 points
Milwards – 3 points
