Congratulations to the team of Year 5 and 6 Girls from Freshwaters, who edged out Church Langley A in a very close final with virtually the last kick of the game. A busy morning of Girls football at Mark Hall Academy saw 15 teams booked on for the event, though disappointedly a few schools didn’t turn up which created a few issues for the organisers. The teams taking part were: Hatfield Heath, Nazeing, Freshwaters, Fawbert and Barnard, Cooks Spinney x 2, Henry Moore, Hare Street , Church Langley x 2, Roydon and Saint Nicholas.
Once the games were underway, the 3 groups of teams played really well and the all-weather pitch was full of excitement and smiles. The girls ran and passed their way through a series of matches which ultimately lead to 4 teams making the semi-finals (Church Langley A, Nazeing, Freshwaters and Cooks Spinney A). Both semi-finals were decided by a single corner point before the main final saw Church Langley leading until the last few seconds before Freshwaters snatched victory. Cooks Spinney narrowly edged out Nazeing for 3rdplace but all the girls were full of smiles at the end.
Thanks to SGO David Stacey, Gill Pardoe and Harry Stacey for refereeing all the matches and to the staff of the schools who continue to support these events which the children love and gain much from.
We wish Freshwaters’ Girls the very best of luck as they represent Harlow in the forthcoming County Finals at Melbourne, Chelmsford in a few weeks’ time.
