Congratulations to Milwards, who triumphed in this afternoon’s basketball finals at Mark Hall Academy. The final 8 teams from the 21 who entered, competed in two groups before the top 4 entered the semi-finals. The afternoon saw a definite increase in skill levels and competitiveness, with some fantastic baskets scored and a real variation in tactics between he teams.
Both Nazeing and St Nicholas topped their respective groups with Milwards and Church Langley A completing the semi-final line-ups. Both semi-finals were very tight; Nazeing narrowly lost out to Milwards by one score, whilst Church Langley A and St Nicholas were forced to play an extra period as their match finished 10-1 despite a last second basket being discounted. Church Langley managed to edge the extra 2 minutes going through 14-12. Nazeing and St Nicholas played out for 3rd/4thwith Nazeing taking the bronze position 10-8. The final was an exciting encounter with Milwards using a superior height advantage to dominate and take the trophy 14-4.
Thanks were given to all the spectators, coaching staff and of course the players for making this year’s basketball tournament such as success. Mr. Stacey thanked Mrs. Pardoe for officiating in what has previously been an overly-physical encounter. We wish Milwards all the best as they represent Harlow in the Level 3 County Finals in Colchester on Friday.
Final results were:
Group 1
Nazeing - 9 points
Church Langley A - 7 points
Tanys Dell - 5 points
Fawbert and Barnard - 3 points
Group 2
