Gifted and Talented day 2

Wow! What an amazing day. Firstly thank you to all the children that attended today’s Gifted and Talented day (part 2) at Mark Hall Academy - we had an absolute blast! Throughout the day the children have really impressed us with their enthusiasm and attitude to just ‘give it a go.’ During the morning sessions they developed their skills in sports leadership through games of 3-tees (cricket) and Vortex Golf; the children were encouraged to think about how to adapt these games to suit younger children, as well as how to ensure the games are even by developing the space, resources, rules and scoring systems - they responded brilliantly and were vocal with ideas, which lead to all sorts of variations on the ‘standard games’. The challenge for the children (and their respective schools) is for them to develop these games and their leadership skills before the 3rdGifted and Talented day. In addition to the 3 tees and Vortex Golf, the children received some expert tuition from Luke, Will and Karen from the Harlow Tennis Club; they showed real potential, so much so that we are now looking at creating a Free- Tennis coaching course at the Harlow Tennis Club for these type of kids - once again this is testament to their positive attitudes throughout the day.

The afternoon session was just as unique! Jenny and Vicki from Hip-Hop-Pop lead the children through a series of ‘funky’ dance moves, which the children just lapped up. It was amazing to see more than 70 kids, all gyrating to various beats (of which we didn’t recognise any tunes!) Towards the end of the afternoon they had put together enough of the moves to create a dance; it was really inspiring to see how quickly the children picked up these new skills and applied them with such enthusiasm and enjoyment.

Well done to all involved.
